The mission of the Greater Austin Sports Foundation (GASF) is to recognize community leaders who have selflessly volunteered their time and money through sports for Central Texas youth. This is done through the Austin Sports Hall of Honor program. From 1980 to 2002, 71 Central Texans who had done amazing things for the youth of Central Texas through sports were honored. This unique recognition program is being revived in 2019, operated by the GASF, a new organization. Each year, several members of the Greater Austin area will be inducted into the Hall of Honor. Some of our honorees are well known in the community for their good works – many are not. They are our unsung heroes – hence the name – Hall of Honor not Hall of Fame.
Hall of Honor – Selection Guidelines
Annually, we select a number of individuals who have contributed significantly to youth sports in the greater Austin area to be part of the Hall of Honor. The GASF also offers the Speaker Series program which brings prominent sports figures to the Greater Austin community to promote sports and generate funds to support the Hall of Honor program.
A. Individuals must have contributed to youth sports in the greater Austin area.
B. Nominees need not be or have been sports participants. The keyword for selection is “contribution.”
C. It does not matter where the nominee lives, only that his/her contributions influence greater Austin area sports.
Nominations will be reviewed by a special selection committee. The selection process and ballots remain confidential.
Each inductee will be recognized through our website, social media, and at the Annual Hall of Honor Banquet. At the banquet, past recipients will be recognized and new inductees will be recognized and receive their awards.
